So I'm buying a house here pretty soon (new construction) and it's amazing, but….it's close to train tracks. not backyard close, but not a whole lot of separation.
The builder is putting a stone wall to stop noise, but I don't know how tall that would be, or how effective it would be (lets not ignore the fact a wall doesn't stop vibrations)
The house is VERY well insulated and uses 2×6 wood instead of normal 2×4 so the walls are a bit thicker, and has a lot more padding than a normal house. Everyone keeps trying to reassure me that it will be fine. including my family.
They claim the train doesn't go by often and goes by slow, but you know they're probably just saying that to get a sale. I don't have to worry about a horn at least as it doesn't cross a road for a decent ways.
I want to look up a schedule, but you can't really do that in america.
I wanted to try and get the house on the other side of the court but my mom strongly urged me not to just for the fact it would be inconvenient for her to move that quickly as that one would have been finished sooner(we share a lease) I fear I may have made the wrong choice.
Does anyone have experiences with being near train tracks? I love trains, but I don't think I want to be near a train.
